Firm description and career prospects
Leading lawyers. Great clients. And an unrivalled commercial approach to business. At RPC we offer a depth of knowledge and creativity that few firms can rival and combine this with high quality training programmes that are consistently lauded in the leading directories.
Headquartered in a state of the art site in the City of London, we also have stunning offices in Bristol, Hong Kong and Singapore. Our open plan, collaborative working environment - where knowledge is easily shared and access to partners an everyday reality - is designed to bring out the best in our people and to ensure that the service we offer our clients is second to none. And it is.
We provide top-quality legal services to global businesses across a wide range of industry sectors and practices, including insurance, commercial litigation, construction, engineering and projects, corporate/M&A, IP and technology, media, real estate, employment and pensions, outsourcing, regulatory, tax and competition.
Twice nominated as Law Firm of the Year in 2013, in 2012 we won Insurance Team of the Year at the Legal Business Awards, Corporate Team of the Year (midcap) at The Lawyer Awards, and Service Provider of the Year at the British Insurance Awards, as well as being voted by the Financial Times as one of the most innovative firms in Europe.
Bursaries are available for the GDL, if applicable, and the LPC. Bursaries comprise course and examination fees and a maintenance grant of up to £7,000. We request that all our trainees complete their LPC at BPP law school.
Vacation scheme programme
We run summer vacation schemes each year in our London office to enable prospective trainees to spend time with us, getting a feel for the work we do and the unique RPC atmosphere. Twelve students at a time spend two weeks with us experiencing the real working life of RPC, giving you a fantastic insight into whether a career here is right for you.
During the scheme we expose you to the business side of being a lawyer, including finding out about the importance of marketing and business development and involving you in a 'real-time' business project.
We also run an open day programme for high quality candidates who don't initially manage to land a place on the summer scheme itself. The open day gives a great snapshot of the firm; the day is packed full of activities, including handling work in two different departments, listening to presentations, taking part in skills workshops and attending networking events.
We run a series of insight and open days from our Bristol office, offering prospective trainees the opportunity to spend time with us over a day or an afternoon, getting a feel for the work we do and the unique RPC atmosphere.
We feel it is important to offer our employees a creative and competitive benefits package with choice and flexibility. Our full range of benefits can be viewed via our website.

Training contract programme
If you're looking for a predictable career in a traditional firm then please stop reading now. At RPC you'll get a whole lot more.
Of course clients expect their lawyers to understand the law. But what they really want is advice from smart people who get the commercial context and can spot the business implications. On this measure, you won’t find better than RPC; the UK's leading client satisfaction report recently ranked us number one for quality of commercial advice.
Combining this commercial outlook with some of the leading lawyers in their fields and great clients, we offer a depth of knowledge and creative approach to problem solving that few firms can rival. It's no surprise, then, that we're regularly praised in the leading directories for the quality of our training programmes.
Headquartered in a state of the art site in the City of London, we also have offices in Bristol, Hong Kong and Singapore. Our culture of excellence, development and open access is driven by our open plan working environment where knowledge is easily shared and access to partners is an everyday reality. It brings out the best in our people and ensures that the service we offer our clients is second to none.
If you like a challenge and want to join us in challenging convention, we're offering training contracts in both London and Bristol, on a full–time contract for two years.
We're intent on rewriting the rules. If you have courage and a pioneering spirit, we'd love to hear from you.
As a trainee you will receive first rate training in a supportive working environment. You will work closely with a partner and will be given real responsibility as soon as you are ready to handle it. At least six months will be spent in four areas of our practice, with opportunities to be seconded to our other UK offices. We encourage our trainees to express preferences for the areas in which they would like to train. In addition to the Professional Skills Course we provide a complementary programme of in-house training. When you qualify we hope you will stay with us and we always do our best to place you in the area of law that suits you most.
What do we look for in our trainees?
Although proven academic ability is important (we require a 2.1 degree or above, not necessarily in law) we value energy, enthusiasm, business sense, commitment and the ability to relate well to others just as highly.
