Over the past few weeks law firms Hogan Lovells, Clyde & Co and Baker McKenzie have released their autumn qualifying trainee retention rates.
Leading global law firm Hogan Lovells was the most recent City firm to release its figures, having kept 16 of its 24 newly qualified solicitors (NQ). This makes the firm’s retention rate 67% or 63%, depending on how the numbers are interpreted. The NQ solicitors joined a wide range of departments. Ten joined finance and corporate, four went to regulatory and intellectual property (IP), and two to the disputes/employment practice.
Meanwhile, as of mid-September, Clyde & Co retained 51 of its 71 NQ solicitors, at offices across the UK, with 28 joining its London office and 13 in Manchester. Baker McKenzie retained 17 of its 20 NQ solicitors, who joined teams across disputes, energy, competition, M&A, corporate finance, private equity, IP and financial regulation.
Elsewhere, Wedlake Bell LLP and Capsticks Solicitors LLP both had 100% retention rates. Wedlake kept all eight of its NQs and Capsticks kept all 10 of its NQs.
