updated on 13 April 2011

Find out what law schools have been getting up to lately with some digestible chunks of info, ready for devouring:

  • Burges Salmon has named The College of Law (CoL) and the Bristol Institute of Legal Practice as its preferred providers for the LPC. Baker & McKenzie has also designated CoL as the law school to provide its accelerated LPC for its future trainees.
  • BPP University College has announced plans to offer a three-year LLB in Swindon, in partnership with New College. It plans to be on offer from September 2011, subject to SRA approval.
  • City Law School has announced that it will offer scholarships for its LLM Masters programme. Each scholarship, worth at least £12,000, will require applicants to have at least a 2.1 and complete a 2000-word essay.
  • CoL ran its annual "Dragon’s Den" style business game at the end of March. Representatives from Ward Hadaway and Dickinson Dees joined senior CoL staff to act as the dragons and judge CoL teams pitching for a virtual investment of up to £4 million.
  • BPP Law School has made its Mandarin language course permanently available, after a trial in 2009. Lawyer2B reports that some practitioners have said it is of limited use, as English is the main language of business, whereas others think that it makes good business sense.
  • A joint team from The College of Law in York and University of York Law School have won the Beachcroft Mooting Shield, held at Sovereign Chambers in Leeds on 6 April.
  • Cardiff Law School and BPP Law School have both raised the amount that students are required to pay as a deposit for the BPTC, to £800 and £500, respectively.
