The City Law School is one of London's major law schools and offers an impressive range of academic and professional courses. Located in the very heart of legal London, we are the first law school in London to educate students and practitioners at all stages of legal education.
We offer courses suitable for everyone interested in following a career in law, no matter what your background or experience.
Our exceptional legal courses are fully accredited by the relevant professional bodies and are developed and delivered by our team of highly respected practitioners and academics.
Our GDL allows students to gain a good foundation in law and fast-track your legal career in one year. Students benefit from the expertise of academic staff at The City Law School, as well as that of leading visiting lecturers and speakers from the legal profession and universities such as Oxford and Cambridge.
The City GDL will teach you the seven core foundation subjects, a prerequisite for taking the professional exams. The introduction to Legal Ethics module, unique to City, also allows you to reflect on the ethical challenges that you might encounter as a lawyer in practice.
Our Legal Practice Course (LPC) has been designed to ensure that you are fully prepared to meet the demands of the modern legal profession. We help you to master the vital skills and knowledge you need to be a successful solicitor. You are also able to develop your interest in a particular specialist area of law by offering a range of vocational electives.
On successful completion of the course you will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice. As our LPC is taught at Masters level rather than at degree level, you can convert your final award into an LLM in Legal Practice by writing an additional dissertation.
Our world renowned BPTC programme delivers effective training for future barristers and equips them with the key skills and networking opportunities to pursue a successful career at the Bar. As original provider of the Bar course, we have a proven track record in helping students obtain pupillage, and provide more than three times the amount of Advocacy teaching than is required by the Bar Standards Board regulations. At The City Law School, you also have the opportunity to gain an LLM in Professional Legal Skills, awarded on successful completion of the BPTC and a supervised dissertation.
The Graduate Entry LLB (Hons) (GE LLB) is a senior status law degree which allows non-law graduates to achieve an LLB law degree in just two years rather than the usual three.
On the course, you have the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge in the core legal subjects as well as learning about specialist areas of law. Successful completion of this course qualifies you to progress to one of the two professional courses; the Legal Practice Course for solicitors or the Bar Professional Training Course for barristers.
The LLM at The City Law School is a flexible Masters programme which enables students to develop a critical understanding of specialist or linked areas of the law through a combination of in-depth scholarship, practitioner contact and real-world insights. Students benefit from being taught by experienced academic staff who are leaders in their fields.
Students embarking on the LLM have two programme options. They may complete the LLM by choosing four or five modules (including a dissertation) from a range of LLM specialist modules, or they may obtain a specialist LLM by completing four or five modules in a specialist area as well as dissertation. Specialist modules/areas include Criminal Litigation, Dispute Resolution, International Commercial Law, International Human Rights, European Union Law and more.
Other LLMs available include International Business Law, The City Law School's first distance learning programme, and Maritime Law, based in Athens, Greece.
