LPC students at BPP Law School can now choose a fast-track option allowing them to complete the course in seven months rather than the traditional nine. Those on the Fast Track LPC will cover the same subject areas as their peers on the conventional nine-month programme - and pay the same amount in fees - but will be required to complete an extra two hours of teaching time and three hours of preparation per week in order to finish early. Two cohorts will start the course each year - one beginning in August, the other in February.
BPP first introduced a shorter LPC programme - the Accelerated LPC - in 2009 in partnership with the City consortium of firms, consisting of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Herbert Smith, Lovells, Norton Rose and Slaughter and May.
Speaking about the law school's decision to offer a shortened course to all of its LPC students and not just those with training contracts, BPP Chief Executive Peter Crisp said: "Offering seven-month LPC programmes only to trainees can be seen as unfair and elitist - especially as the potential saving on living costs are particularly beneficial to self-funded students. At BPP we feel it is important to give all students who are capable of handling the workload a chance to choose between the fast-track or full length LPC, irrespective of whether they have secured a training contract or not."
The Fast Track LPC will be available at BPP Law School's centres in Birmingham, Leeds, London Holborn and Manchester. All students offered a place on BPP's LPC who have a minimum of a 2.1 degree can apply to do the course.
