What makes us different is our people. Our people are determined to achieve the best results for our clients. How we get there varies from organisation to organisation, person to person. No assumptions, no one-size-fits-all approach. We measure and monitor results to ensure that we are the preferred legal service provider for our clients.

We also recognise the importance of our people enjoying what they do, providing a friendly and inspiring working environment in all our offices. This is acknowledged with us being awarded the Top Employer accolade for the thirteenth year running!

We're proud to be a leading national player in insurance, with a formidable reputation and heritage. We're highly respected in the public sector, acting for many local, police and fire authorities, and NHS trusts. We're also recognised as a strong provider of a diverse range of commercial services for public sector bodies, large institutions, owner-managed businesses and PLCs. In addition, we offer a full family and private client service including wills, tax, probate and residential conveyancing.

We're well equipped to provide a full legal service to all of our clients and have the resources to deal with the most demanding legal needs, both at home and overseas. We've built informal associations with law firms in most foreign jurisdictions, complementing the comprehensive range of legal services we provide.

We know that superb client service only comes through a happy and motivated workforce, so commitment to our people and their progression, is at the heart of who we are and reinforced in all we do.

We offer our trainees a breadth of legal experience. Challenged from the outset, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your talents across a range of seats. You will follow a focused training plan which will enable you to develop business as well as legal skills. The quality of our training is an important commercial investment. Our retention rate is high and we want today's trainees to remain at Weightmans and be leaders in our future.

We succesfully launched our graduate solicitor pathway in September 2022. The benefits of this pathwat is that trainees can join the firm straight from university, qualify as a solicitor earlier and study towards the SQE whilst working in a legal role, applying it to practice from day one.

The 32-month programme provides you with the best learning and development opportunities in order for you to qualify as a solicitor. One day each week is dedicated to off-the-job study with the four remaining days gaining your required work-based experience. You will complete five work placements across different areas of the business, learning from leading experts in the legal field.

You can apply for a Weightmans graduate solicitor apprenticeship from the penultimate year of your law degree, or final year of your non-law degree (if you plan to complete a Graduate Diploma in Law, or equivalent). Successful candidates will be placed on the most appropriate pathway for them to qualify as a solicitor. If you have already commenced study towards, or completed, your legal practice course (LPC) you will be placed on a training contract pathway, which follows the same application process.

Our training provider within the graduate solicitor apprenitceship is BPP University, with details on learning modules provided by them on our website. The course and subsequent exams are fully funded within our graduate solicitor apprenticeship.

Diversity and Inclusion is extremely important to Weightmans. We have four key diversity strands within our diversity strategy, led by multiple strand leads and diveristy champions across the business.

We run numerous events across the calendar year to celebrate many diversity and inclusion themes, and are keen to get our trainees involved in these.

Further details of our strategy and statistics can be found on our website.

We fully fund solicitor qualifying exam fees and preparatory courses via our training provider, BPP. These are completed alongside your position as a trainee solicitor and you will have one day per week dedicated to study. You will therefore be earning a competitive salary from day one and not have to worry about fees.
