  • Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL): The PGDL is a law conversion course that provides the foundation for a non-law graduate to progress onto either the SQE1 Preparation Course, LLM Legal Practice (SQE1 and SQE2), or a Bar course. The PGDL can be combined with a master’s to become an MA Law (Conversion).

  • SQE2 Preparation Course: This programme prepares students for the SQE2 practical skills assessments. It is designed for students who have completed SQE1.

  • SQE Law Essentials Online: This short online course introduces the essentials of legal knowledge required for SQE1. It allows students to progress onto the SQE1 Preparation Course, LLM Legal Practice (SQE1 and SQE2), or a law conversion.

  • MA Law (SQE1): This course, which includes ULaw’s SQE1 Preparation Course, is designed for non-law graduates who want to qualify as a solicitor and gain a legal qualification at master’s level. It allows students to progress on to study the LLM Legal Practice (SQE1 and SQE2).

Can I combine SQE preparation with an undergraduate law degree?

Many universities are adapting their undergraduate law programmes to better prepare students for SQE. Doing some SQE preparation as part of your undergraduate degree could make one of the more basic postgraduate SQE preparation courses more attractive – but always bear in mind the quality of training you are likely to receive and the reputation of the education provider before making a decision.

Universities adapting their LLB programmes to the SQE include Ardern UniversityBath Spa UniversityCoventry University and Goldsmiths, University of London.

Catch up on news and tips about the SQE via LCN’s dedicated SQE hub.
