Firm description and career prospects
Trethowans is a premier law firm based in the South with a team of over 200 including 35 partners and 67 lawyers. The firm has a diverse and expanding client base. Our continued success is due to the quality of our people and the growing strength and reputation of our brand. With offices in Salisbury, Southampton and Poole our partners and staff enjoy the benefit of living close to the south coast whilst having the quality of work and clients often associated with a City firm. Many of our clients are household name clients. Service excellence is a priority - clients value the firm's ability to deliver top-quality, expert advice, on time, in a very personable manner and at a competitive price.
On the commercial side, we represent international and national household brand names, owner-managed businesses, entrepreneurs and major regional employers across the UK. When acting for individuals, we represent landowners, entrepreneurs, local families, property developers and trustees among others.
Legal advice to businesses includes: corporate, commercial, commercial property, commercial litigation, insurance litigation, employment, licensing, health and safety and regulatory work. Legal advice to individuals includes: personal injury; wills, trusts and tax; wealth structuring and inheritance planning; agriculture and rural property; family and residential property.
Many of our teams and individuals are rated in both the Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession and Legal 500, the two independent guides to the legal profession in the UK.
Training contract programme
Trainee solicitors usually undertake four separate specialist seats, each lasting six months. The firm offers a flexible approach in deciding trainees' seats to suit individual needs, while providing a broad training programme in accordance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority guidelines. Trainees work closely with the supervising lawyer/partner to whom they are responsible. They are considered an important part of each team and become closely involved in the team's work to obtain first-hand legal experience.
Each trainee's performance is reviewed regularly by their supervisor and regular feedback is provided. This enables the trainee scheme to be continually evaluated and also ensures that the highest possible standards are maintained. Trainees are an integral part of the firm from day one. They are responsible for the firm's staff newsletter, involved in organising annual social events, participate in business development, and actively communicate via twitter about their work and progress as a trainee (www.twitter.com/trethtrainees).
