Norton Rose Fulbright has confirmed that it will offer trainee solicitors the opportunity to spend six months of their training contracts in Johannesburg.
Currently, the firm offers London trainees overseas secondments in a number of cities, including Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo, as well as Perth and Sydney. From October 2014, trainees based in Johannesburg will also be able to take an international secondment in London, in addition to their current options of Australia or Tanzania. This follows news in April that Herbert Smith Freehills will also widen the choice of international secondments for trainees, with seats in Australia becoming available.
Andrew McEachern, global director of people and development at Norton Rose Fulbright, said: "As we continue to expand the practice, we are also developing the opportunities for our trainees and people. The new rotation between the United Kingdom and Johannesburg is very good news for an international and growing practice like ours; people spending time between our international offices allows us to strengthen our cultural alignment and understanding across the business."
