Following a successful launch in 2016, the mentoring scheme run jointly by Browne Jacobson and the law school at Manchester Metropolitan University (Man Met) has been expanded in 2017 to take on a total of 17 undergrad law students.
The scheme aims to provide students with dedicated mentoring support from lawyers at Manchester-based Browne Jacobson. Mentors will act as personal advisers to the mentees, who will also have access to CV workshops, training contract application advice sessions, and assessment day workshops. The scheme is up for an award at this year’s Manchester Legal awards.
Nichola Evans, Browne Jacobson partner and architect of the scheme, said: “I am delighted that the scheme has almost doubled in size and is being recognised for the value and reward it offers to students keen to pursue a successful legal career. A large number of students who attend Man Met come from a socioeconomic background where they are often the first in the family to attend university. As a result they have no connections at all with the legal profession, so it is fantastic to be able to fulfil our firm commitment to promoting and encouraging diversity and social mobility across all areas of our business.”
Head of Man Met’s law school, Catherine Little, said: “The mentoring scheme is vital in helping to develop the social and cultural capital that some of our students need.
