Trainee solicitor apprentice

As a legal professional within our specialist firm you'll play a critical role in upholding the rights of honourable clients across key areas of housing and immigration law.

Your work will involve managing a diverse caseload including housing this disrepair comes, unlawful evictions, tenancy deposit disputes and immigration matters. This position requires a strong understanding of statutory obligations, case law and client care standards.

You’ll be expected to worth both independently and as part of a collaborative legal team, demonstrating empathy, attention to detail and strategic thinking in resolving often urgent and emotionally charged cases. It’s a role where your legal expertise directly impacts lives, offering meaningful redress and protection to those in need.

Job description

We're seeking a motivated and detail orientated housing disrepair paralegal or caseworker to join our our growing legal team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for some passionate about social justice and housing law, who is eager to develop to develop hands-on experience managing housing disrepair claims from pre-action though to litigation. Responsibilities include:

  • drafting letters of claims in line with housing conditions pre-action protocol;
  • developing a solid understanding of the civil procedure rules, with a particular focus on pre-action disclosure applications;
  • reviewing landlord disclosure documents to identify key evidence, including notices of complaint from tenants;
  • instructing and liaising with expert surveyors to obtain detailed housing despair reports;
  • reviewing expert reports to ensure this repair falls within the scope of section 11 over landlord and tenant act 1985 and not causation is clearly established;
  • valuing claims accurately, including general damages, special damages and rent abatement;
  • instructing barristers for formal advice on prospects of success and viability of claims; and
  • preparing and issuing court proceedings awareness the deadline procedure payment.

Future prospects

There's a clear pathway to progress into a fee-earner or solicitor role or into more senior case handling positions such as litigation executive, team leader or supervisor. Over the course of the role, you'll:

  • develop expertise in housing law;
  • gain exposure to court proceedings, barrister conferences and potential attendance at hearings, preparing for future roles involving advocacy or complex litigation; and
  • possibility to broaden knowledge across firm specialism, including immigration, tenancy deposit claims and lawful eviction.
