Firm description and career prospects
Lodders is a forward-looking, friendly and well-connected Warwickshire law firm with its headquarters in Stratford upon Avon. We have three offices, 28 partners and approximately 115 staff and our roots date back over 225 years. The main office in Stratford upon Avon, where you would be based, houses all the main departments of the firm. We also have offices in Cheltenham and Henley in Arden . We specialise in working for private clients and privately owned and family businesses. Our agricultural and real estate teams are highly regarded and we also act for a large number of charities and not for profit clients. Our approach is to recruit people that can help us deliver a 'best of breed' service to our clients, many of whom are highly successful and wealthy individuals.
Lodders is a growing firm and one that is run for the long-term. We are committed to remaining independent and to providing our talented and committed people with rewarding and long term careers.
You will find us listed in Chambers 2016 as one of the leading firms in the Midlands for agriculture and private client work. We also have very strong real estate and residential property departments, well known for the quality of their work for local, regional and national clients. The company commercial department predominantly works with privately owned businesses and entrepreneurs. The dispute resolution department deals with a range of property and commercial matters and we also have highways and planning law specialists.
Training contract programme
Generally, you will spend six months in each of four areas (private client, real estate, dispute resolution and business group) but we are happy to accommodate any particular interests that you might wish to pursue. The choice is enviable and now includes the option of a seat for three months at Self, the financial planning and advice company with which we have close links. You can visit their web site at www.selfadvice.com.
In terms of the work that you will experience, the opportunities are wide and varied. You will work with both assistants and partners and the work that you carry out will be under the supervision of one of the partners in each department, who operate an open-door policy and are available to provide you with constructive feedback on your performance. This will ensure that you are progressing in the right direction. Our structured appraisal system ensures that all trainees are kept informed of how they need to improve in their personal and career development. We also encourage all our trainees and junior solicitors to play an active role in the development of the firm, whether by taking part in our various committees, attending Lodders marketing events or writing material for the website and client publications.
Your Professional Skills Course will be paid for by us but selected by you to allow you to concentrate on the areas in which you are most interested. We feel that your continued development is crucial to enable you to perform at the highest level and we support training both throughout your training contract and post-qualification. You will have the opportunity to attend all in-house seminars and any external seminars that may assist your development. We also encourage internal knowledge sharing involving intra-departmental seminars which will give you the chance to develop your presentation skills.
We appreciate that people have different abilities and it takes a range of skills to make a business succeed, so we look for candidates who display a number of key talents.
