Firm description and career prospects
Eversheds Sutherland represents the combination of two firms with a shared culture and commitment to client service excellence. We are each known for our commercial awareness and industry knowledge and for providing innovative and tailored solutions for every client.
Increasing globalization has changed the nature of business. It has also changed the type of advice our clients need. Eversheds Sutherland was formed with this in mind. As our clients expand globally, we are with them. Our lawyers around the globe are united by our vision, values and understanding of our clients’ businesses and their needs. They provide legal advice of the highest quality whether they are operating within country or across borders from our 66 offices in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
We consider every opportunity and issue with the same energy and creative, proactive approach. This can involve developing efficient structures for business transactions, devising novel case strategies in litigation and being at the forefront of new legal developments. We also offer a unique project management approach that enables us to deliver complex, multi-jurisdictional legal services through a single point of contact, providing efficiency and certainty for our clients.
Above all, we listen to our clients. Our solutions-oriented, service-led approach attracts clients faced with issues and opportunities that demand in-depth understanding of business, specific industry knowledge and the ability to manage substantial matters across borders.
Financial support is offered to prospective trainees for the GDL and LPC. The firm will cover fees for these courses and currently provide an annual maintenance grant of between £5,000 – £7,000.
Our vacation scheme gives you the opportunity to earn money whilst getting valuable hands-on experience in one of our offices. Each two-week work placement will encourage you to really get under the skin of life at Eversheds Sutherland, giving you the chance to:
assist with research
spend time in two different fee-earning departments
meet partners, solicitors and trainees at social events
take part in one of our corporate responsibility events
attend a range of informal talks to discover more about Eversheds Sutherland
You will be paid £329 a week (London) or £288 a week (regions) during your two weeks with us.
Applying for a work placement with Eversheds Sutherland
We welcome applications from penultimate-year law undergraduates, final-year non-law graduates as well as candidates who've already graduated or taken different career paths.
Selected candidates will be shortlisted to video interview. If you pass that interview you will be invited to a selection day and if you are successful and do well on the vacation scheme, you may be offered a training contract.
Training contract programme
As a trainee you will join a well-rounded training programme designed to give you a diverse experience throughout all of our practice groups. You will be supported by a mentor and supervisor and be given technical training as well as the business skills that the PSC course provides. Responsibility is yours as soon as you can handle it, and will be offered during each of the six months spent in the four departments.
At Eversheds, trainees are important to us and we are selective about who we offer contracts to. In the nine offices we recruit trainees into, we offer around 50 contracts and the people who join us are the future of the firm because the majority of our trainees stay with us. Eversheds people are valued for their expertise and their business advice; they are straight forward, client centred and commercially aware. We look for the same in our trainees.
