Application details and method of selection
We have a dedicated application page which allows you to upload your CV and covering letter for submission to our HR team. This page also asks for a breakdown of your education history.
If you are successful, we will contact you to arrange a first interview with a member of our HR team and a senior associate. The structure of this interview will be based on the contents of your application form and will assess your skills and knowledge, relevant to the position of a trainee solicitor. At this stage, we will also ask you to review a case study and answer some questions about your understanding of the information provided.
What happens next?
The interview panel will review the answers you gave during your interview and assess your understanding of the case study. We will contact you to let you know whether you have been successful in reaching the second interview stage.
The second interview will be held with two of our partners. During this interview, you should expect to be asked a wide variety of general and business related questions. The partners will be predominately testing your commercial awareness, your suitability for a legal career and your fit with Edwin Coe.

Training contract programme
Our two-year training contract gives you hands on experience and a highly personal feel. The contract compromises of four six-month seats in the following practice areas:
Commercial litigation and dispute resolution
Corporate and commercial
Insolvency and restructuring
As part of the SRA requirements for qualification, you must gain experience in at least three different areas of law during your training contract, including one that involves contentious work. We have developed a number of ways in which trainees can gain the contentious experience necessary to meet the SRA’s requirements.
Whilst there is inevitably high demand to be seated in some areas, we seek to give you as much scope as possible to shape the direction of your training. In addition to SRA requirements we endeavour to enable all trainees to complete a seat in corporate and commercial and a practice area within our litigation department.
Edwin Coe is committed to helping trainees develop into competent and confident solicitors. You will be given the opportunity for ‘hands on’ involvement including managing your own files. Throughout your training period, there will be a continuous process of two way feedback. The firm operates an informal mid seat review and a formal end of seat review, the aim of this is to monitor your progress and support your developments over the course of the two years.
