Paralegal - real estate

What does the role involve?

The role is to provide high-quality legal support to the Real Estate team in Cambridge. You will be part of a dedicated client team dealing with innovative and complex investment and development projects for some of the firm’s leading clients.

Work will be supervised and will consist of a broad range of commercial property tasks including:

  • Attending and supporting at client meetings
  • Assisting with due diligence, lease reports and title reports
  • Drafting documents using agreed standards and the firm’s precedent library
  • Client liaison
  • Arranging and holding conference calls with various parties, including clients
  • Undertaking legal or other research
  • Coordinating document management on large transactions
  • Preparing engrossments
  • Assisting principals with completions
  • Dealing with all aspects of post completion for complex real estate transactions
  • Financial and file management and running some files with supervision
  • Dealing with ad hoc enquiries raised by clients in relation to the management of their estate

What experience is required?

You are likely to have had previous paralegal, or equivalent experience and will have a solid academic background together with excellent IT skills.

What skills and attributes would I need?

  • 2:1 degree and good A levels (grades A* to B), or equivalent
  • Legal Practice Course (grade commendation or higher)
  • Excellent IT literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written English
  • An ability to deliver accurate, technically correct and easy to understand pieces of work, which may include advice
  • Attention to detail
  • Enthusiastic and proactive attitude to work
  • Flexible in approach
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • A confident personality and good sense of humour
  • Friendly with good communication skills
  • Willingness to work in a small, dedicated team
  • Positive team player willing to tackle any task

Who would I be working with?

The NSL is headed up by partner, Beverley Firth.  You will be working predominantly for Michelle Cookson who is a partner in the NSL in Cambridge.  Michelle specialises in real estate development and investment work with a particular focus on the health and education sectors.
