NLS students go Dutch

updated on 05 July 2013

Nottingham Law School (NLS) has signed a deal with Dutch university Radboud which will allow NLS students to study for a Master's in European Law in the Netherlands. Similarly, students from Radboud, in Nijmegen, will be taught at NLS and be awarded an LLB in Legal Studies.

John Tingle, head of international development at Nottingham Law School, said: "The two law schools have very similar ideologies. While we are both underpinned by legal research, many of our academics are also legal practitioners. UK lawyers need to know about European Law at a practical level because of the United Kingdom's role in the European Union. They need to know about international human rights because of the impact of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. You cannot practice effectively as a lawyer today - even on the domestic stage - without knowledge of what is going on in Brussels and Strasbourg."

Students beginning this September will be eligible for the course, with the first contingent travelling to Radboud by 2015.
