Mayer Brown, the only City firm to run an ‘articled apprenticeship’ programme, has recruited a third apprentice.
The apprentice, Tim Kennedy, will work at Mayer Brown while studying a four-year part-time law degree, followed by the Legal Practice Course and Professional Skills Course, meaning that he should qualify as a solicitor six years after starting at the firm. This articled apprenticeship is the only legal apprenticeship which provides a direct pathway to qualifying as a solicitor, although it is possible for apprentices to eventually become solicitors after completing other types of apprenticeship. The firm’s other two apprentices, Rosie Harrison and David Elikwu, are currently in the second year of the ‘earn while you learn’ process.
Annette Sheridan, global chief HR officer at Mayer Brown, commented: "The legal apprenticeship programme has given us an opportunity to invest in the long-term future of a wider talent pool and provide relevant on-the-job training that will serve our apprentices throughout their legal careers. I am delighted to welcome another apprentice to the firm and I look forward to following his progress over the coming years."
