Nottingham Law School is launching an LLM in international energy, designed to prepare students for careers in the petrol and mining industries.

The core modules, to be taught by experienced energy law specialist Professor David Ong, cover the international investment and environmental law that governs mining and the petroleum sector. Students will also have the opportunity to study the legal issues surrounding oil, gas and renewable energy, as well as environmental and climate change law.

The course will launch in January 2014 as a distance learning programme, and become available to study full-time and part-time on campus in October 2014.

John Tingle, head of international development at Nottingham Law School, said: “With extensive expertise in both international finance and investment law and with Professor’s Ong’s international environmental law experience, we are in an excellent position to deliver this highly innovative course. This means that we can respond to strong demand for such a course from nations like Nigeria, Ghana, the oil-producing Arab states and Eastern European countries, particularly as we are also offering the degree through distance learning.”
