Irwin Mitchell LLP expands presence in North East

National firm Irwin Mitchell LLP has significantly expanded its presence in the North East following the acquisition of family practice Silk Family Law, meaning it now has one of the largest family teams in the UK.

Silk Family Law is ranked top in the Legal 500 in the North East, with the acquisition adding 25 extra staff to Irwin Mitchell’s family practice.

With offices in Newcastle, Leeds and Richmond, Silk Family Law represents clients in the matrimonial and family law areas, specialising in business assets, farming businesses, trusts, pensions and cases with an international dimension. As of 30 September 2022, the firm’s net assets for the year were m £2 million, with more than £1.6 million cash reserves, according to the Law Gazette.

This isn’t the first expansive step Irwin Mitchell has made over the past financial year. It also acquired asset management firms TWP Wealth and Andrews Gwynne, has recruited 18 new partners and expanded in other northern and Welsh cities, opening offices in Liverpool and Cardiff.
