Herbert Smith Freehills, Wragge & Co and the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) have released a documentary celebrating diversity in the legal profession in conjunction with the online careers advice hub, www.CareerPlayer.com.
The documentary, Diversity in Law, highlights growing diversity in the legal sector and attempts to dispel the notion that law is mainly a sector for privately educated white men, while also highlighting the various different career paths available.
The documentary will be sent to every university in the United Kingdom and will be promoted by organisations including the Social Mobility Foundation, the BLD Foundation and UpReach. It will also be made available to other organisations involved in the promotion of diversity, including Stonewall, the Black Solicitors Network, PRIME, Pathways to Law, Elevation Networks and the City Solicitors’ Educational Trust.
Nusrat Zar, partner at Herbert Smith Freehills, said: "I think there is still a stereotype in this country that a lawyer is invariably someone from a middle class background who has probably been to a private school and a red brick university. I don’t think that is right at all anymore and there is much more awareness now of diversity in particular, and encouraging and retaining the best talent."
