City joins Law Society’s diversity scheme

updated on 24 March 2011

City Law School has joined the Law Society's Diversity Access Scheme (see "Law Soc diversity scheme applications open"), aimed at improving social mobility in the legal profession. City will now offer a free place on the LPC to a successful candidate from the 2011-12 academic year. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed this July in Chancery Lane.

LPC director Amanda Fancourt commented: "We are delighted to have joined such an important scheme at a vital time both for aspiring lawyers and for legal education in the United Kingdom and beyond. This Law Society project enables those who have endured a wide variety of challenging circumstances to pursue their goal of becoming a lawyer and we hope to welcome our first student in September."

The scheme supports promising budding lawyers who also face "exceptional social, educational, financial or personal obstacles to qualification"; alumni of the scheme have undergone time in care, overcome serious physical disability, and resisted forced marriage.
