Herbies and Times launch student advocacy comp

updated on 23 June 2011

Budding advocates take note: Herbert Smith and The Times have announced their annual student advocacy competition. The topic this year is "The apprentice lawyer: is this the new route into the law?", and applications must be received by 11 July.

Initial applications must include a 400-word skeleton argument, along with a video presentation of no more than 90 seconds. Six finalists will then be asked to make their presentations and face questioning from a panel of legal experts, which will include Mrs Justice Rafferty, Shami Chakrabarti (the director of Liberty), Nigel Savage (the chief executive of The College of Law), Ben Summerskill (the chief executive of Stonewall), Frances Gibb (the legal editor of The Times) and Ian Gatt QC (a partner at Herbert Smith).  The final will be held at the Law Society on 12 September.

The winner will receive £3,000 and a place on Herbert Smith’s vacation scheme. For more on the competition and details on how to apply, click here.
