Hopefully you’ve enjoyed an elegant sufficiency of Easter chocolate and are now ready for some more savoury delights, such as those within this week’s commercial news round-up (certainly the story about the Gherkin couldn’t have come at a better time). Savour the following:
- News from the beleaguered Co-op Group remains at the depressing end of the spectrum - traditional political ally Labour says it may sever ties with the bank, while its own chief executive admits that it has been a "disastrous year".
- Is it ever wise to mix drugs? Certainly big pharma companies Novartis and GlaxoSmithKline think there are no contraindications to their proposed joint venture.
- Purveyor of delicious cakes Patisserie Valerie is hoping for a sweet deal when it sells shares on the London Stock Exchange, aiming to raise £33 million.
- Known for its cheap and disposable fashion, Primark is opening a store in Boston USA and hoping to succeed where other UK retailers have failed and grab a share of the lucrative US market.
- The Iconic Gherkin building has got into a bit of a pickle and gone into receivership; its owners are hoping for offers of around £550 million from potential buyers.
