A growing number of young lawyers are choosing to leave their high-paying jobs in pursuit of a better work/life balance. Despite the allure of salaries that can reach up to £180,000 for newly qualified (NQ) solicitors at top City law firms like Paul Weiss and Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher UK LLP, the demanding nature of the job is pushing generation Z (gen z) and millennial lawyers to seek alternative careers.
In an exciting development for aspiring lawyers, The University of York and The College of Legal Practice (the College) have joined forces to provide a master's programme – the LLM in Professional Legal Practice (SQE1 & SQE2) – designed to prepare students for the Solicitor Qualifying Exam (SQE). The first cohort of students is expected to start in September 2025, with approximately 50 students enrolling on the course.
