Vinson & Elkins is a leading US-based international law firm with more than 650 lawyers located in 13 cities across the globe. Over three decades ago we became one of the first US law firms to establish a practice in London. Since then we have built a dynamic office, doing work that has gained respect of clients around the world. V&E is consistently recognised by independent reviews as one of the world’s leading energy practices. In addition, V&E has built market leading construction, private equity and telecommunications practice. Over the years, V&E has amassed a wealth of experience working on transactions, disputes and projects for clients in almost ever country on the map. We have a truly international practice.

We are accustomed to working in not only well-defined and developed markets, but also in less familiar and challenging environments, under developing local regimes or with weak communications and infrastructure. We know how to adapt to local customs, cultures and laws, enabling us to handle matters quickly and effectively. We work in tandem with our clients, travelling wherever and whenever we’re needed to get the job done. We know what it takes to make deals work and to win cases. This knowledge enables us to offer creative solutions for our clients engaged in leading-edge projects around the world.

Our clients are predominantly in the energy, private equity, finance and infrastructure/construction sectors and the London office specialised in M&A, private equity, capital markets, project development and finance, international arbitration and litigation, corporate, structured finance, tax, employment and construction.

For Summer 2020 placements apply by 31 January 2020. Applications should be made by way of our online application form, available from our website from November 2019.

Vacation placements at V&E are designed to give you real experience as to what a training contract with us will be like, and will give you exposure to real deals, cases and clients.

If you are in the first year of a law degree or the penultimate year of a non-law degree, and would like to learn more about the firm, you may be interested in applying to attend our open day on 18 March 2020. The open day is dedicated to candidates at this earlier stage. Applications can be made at any time by emailing us at graduaterecruitment@velaw.com. Please include your name, contact details, and your current stage of education. Please also confirm that you have achieved our minimum academic requirements of at least AAB at A level or equivalent before 7 February 2020.

The firm operates a partially non-rotational training system and trainees work in all practice areas throughout their two years. During the first year, as trainees settle into the firm, trainees work predominantly within the team in which they sit, thereafter, trainees work across all practice areas. Secondments to one of our international offices are a regular feature. The training is designed to provide variety, flexibility and responsibility from the start, and earned V&E the 'Best Trainer – US firm in the City' award in 2010 and the 'Best Trainer – Medium City Firm' award in 2006, both from LawCareers.Net. In 2007, 2008 and 2009 the scheme was shortlisted for the 'Best Trainer – US firm in the City' award. In 2012, 2013 and 2014 the firm was further shortlisted for the 'Best Recruiter – US firm in the City' award. The firm also won 'Best Recruiter – US firm in the City' award in 2017 and Best Training Principal in 2018.
