Pro bono Initiatives

The National Pro Bono Centre

In July 2010, the National Pro Bono Centre (NPBC), a central ‘hub’ that was based in Chancery Lane, was created to bring together the legal profession’s pro-bono work, helping individuals and community groups within England and Wales. Following the expiration of its lease in 2020, the NPBC has prioritised cross-sector collaboration and expanded its support to a wider spectrum of pro bono charities within the legal sector in England and Wales.

The office houses Advocate (previously known as the Bar Pro Bono Unit), Law Works, the ILEX Pro Bono Forum, the Access to Justice Foundation, London Legal Support Trust, Pro Bono Community, the Legal Action Group and the Litigant in Person Support Strategy.

Through the move, it hopes to further the aims of the individual organisations with the principal objective to make it easier for people in need to seek and receive help.
