Volunteer interns (online media and fundraising and events management)

Could you be one of the London Legal Support Trust's interns in 2013?

We are looking for a new online media and fundraising intern and an events management intern.

Who are we?

The London Legal Support Trust (LLST) raises funds, mostly from the legal profession, to support free legal advice centres (law centres and similar agencies) in London and the South East as well as helping them to improve and become more sustainable.

Our main fundraising event of the year is the London Legal Walk. This has grown from a small group of around 300 lawyers walking eight years ago and raising about £36,000 to the 2012 walk having 6,000 walkers (mostly lawyers) and raising £540,000! Teams of walkers came from all parts of the legal profession. Walk leaders included the Lord Chief Justice, the Master of the Rolls, the DPP, the Attorney and Solicitor Generals, the Presidents of the Law Society and CILEx, and the Chair of the Bar Council.

This year's walk will be held on Monday 20 May we want it to be bigger and better than ever.

To achieve this we need more help!

The roles available (you can apply for more than one if you wish)

We need bright and dedicated individuals to be our:

Online media and fundraising intern, to assist with:

  1. Registering new teams (from law firms, chambers, law schools and charities) to take part in the walk.
  2. Helping publicise who is currently taking part and encouraging persuade more teams to register
  3. Ensuring information about the walk is in the public domain (and is correct!) and gaining general publicity for the walk.
  4. Helping the walk to have a presence on Facebook and through other social media channels.
  5. Developing new fundraising materials
  6. Updating and maintaining our contact records
  7. Other tasks as reasonably requested

Events management intern, to assist with:

  1. Helping devise a strategy to ensure this year's walk is the best yet
  2. Helping to organise the logistics of the day
  3. Researching opportunities to develop our event portfolio
  4. Creating marketing materials to involve more people in the events
  5. To attend on the event day and assist with on the day logistics, volunteer management etc
  6. To manage any ad hoc projects and undertake any other duties within the remit of the role as requested.
  7. Other tasks as reasonably requested

Skills and qualities you will need:

  • IT literacy i.e. ability to use MS Word, Excel, Outlook and the internet
  • Attention to detail, an ability to produce accurate work
  • High standard of written and spoken English
  • Ability to draft own correspondence
  • Excellent communication skills across a wide range of audiences (i.e. maintaining LLST's reputation when contacting law firms, courts, press and sponsors).
  • Motivation, enthusiasm and initiative
  • Professional working manner
  • An organised approach to tasks
  • Relevant previous experience preferred
  • Interest in and commitment to free legal advice charities

Duration: Days/times can be flexible (ideally at least one to two days per week) and fixed according to suitable applicant. Duration of the internship would be at least until mid June, beyond this can be discussed.

Location: Home based and central London (Chancery Lane)

This internship is a fantastic opportunity to help a small but influential charity that works closely with all parts of the legal profession. We will offer on the job training, practical skills and experience of both the charity sector and within the legal profession whilst hopefully having fun and taking pride in having been part of such a positive effort for the wider community.
