Legal Intern

Oxfam is an International confederation of 17 independent, non-governmental organizations working together in 98 countries to achieve our vision of ‘a just world without poverty’. Our secretariat is based in Oxford, with advocacy and campaigns offices in Washington DC, New York, Brussels, Geneva, Brasilia and a liaison office with the Africa Union in Addis Ababa.

Purpose

To provide legal support in the form of on-going tasks and projects. The post will provide an understanding of the main focuses of the organisation and the legal processes which support Oxfam’s work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development of legal capacity in the Oxfam Confederation through the identification of external resources and networking with NGO lawyers groups;
  • Assist with the maintenance of the legal registrations of Stichting Oxfam International in all relevant jurisdictions;
  • Assist with the maintenance of the Oxfam Confederation trademark portfolio, licensing and registration;
  • Support Secretariat staff in preparing and reviewing contracts; maintain contracts files;
  • Provide general procedural legal support to Secretariat staff.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have completed the LPC and have some commercial law experience, with an interest in working in the NGO sector.

Terms and conditions

The secretariat is seeking an intern to start immediately, full-time for six months. The candidate must be eligible to work in the UK and have verbal and written fluent English.

The role is unpaid, but reasonable lunch and local travel expenses will be reimbursed.
