Voluntary work placement

Charles Allotey & Co is a South London firm with two branches in Brixton and Thornton Heath, Croydon. We are currently providing opportunities for applicants interested in short term voluntary work placements with the view to gaining some practical experience. Please note this is an unpaid position designed for those seeking to gain some practical experience following successful completion of the LPC/BVC.

We also have a wide base of clients in the fields of immigration, employment and general civil litigation in private cases.

The role

We are looking for bright and ambitious LPC graduates, the role will cover attendance to clients, and paralegal work and may include attendances at courts and hearings with Counsel. We can be flexible with the times and days, but would prefer someone full time but for the right candidate part time may be considered.

The role would include:

• active day to day support of the solicitors as required
• direct exposure to clients, aswell as phone attendance
• assisting in preparation for cases and hearings
• conducting and managing online search enquiries and legal research
• drafting correspondence
• scanning copying and pagination aswell as assistance with case bundle preparation
• providing administrative support and legal assistance in all areas

Abilities

Candidates must have either completed or have commenced the LPC and ideally possess:

• Law degree, preferably LPC qualified
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
• IT skills (Word, Outlook and web-based applications)
• Excellent organisational skills

The candidate should be able to demonstrate

• A 'can-do' approach
• A willingness to learn
