Our Legal organisation connects our customers’ businesses to the ever-changing legal and regulatory environment. We provide critical online and print information, decision support tools, software and services to lawyers who practise in law firms, in corporate legal departments and in the public sector. We are a growing business in the UK, especially since the acquisition of Practical Law Company. We are very excited about the next stage in our growth and how you can play a part in it. 

Role purpose/summary:

Editor within the restructuring & insolvency team, practical law

Major responsibilities/accountabilities: 

  • Analysing the latest UK, EU and international legal and regulatory developments, deciding which items to cover and writing current awareness updates and case reports for a weekly email and for publication on uk.practicallaw.com.
  • Creating new materials and maintaining existing materials that form part of the practical law restructuring & insolvency (R&I) product online.
  • Commissioning, reviewing and editing materials written by external contributors.
  • Peer reviewing materials written by other team members.
  • Ensuring all materials are well written, legally correct, up-to-date, reflect current market practice and comply with practical law’s approach to writing.
  • Answering legal questions submitted by subscribers through the Ask service.
  • Working with other Thomson Reuters legal services to produce and maintain cross-service materials
  • Keeping up-to-date with the law and market practice.
  • Keeping aware of developments in other services and the business generally and considering how they may affect the service.
  • Assisting with marketing the R&I service and engaging with subscribers.
  • Developing and managing relationships with external contributors.
  • Working with other members of the wider legal editorial team on delivery of the targets for the team (including Sweet & Maxwell and Westlaw), liaising with sales, marketing, product management, technology and segment functions where necessary.
  • Assisting the R&I team with other projects, as required.

Mandatory skills and experience:

  • Significant and up-to-date knowledge and experience of corporate restructuring and insolvency law and practice.
  • A high level of technical legal skill.
  • An ability to work efficiently to produce well-written, practical materials in a timely and efficient manner.
  • An understanding of the market and the needs of R&I practitioners.
  • Strong analytical skills and a keen eye for detail.
  • The ability to communicate legal concepts concisely and clearly.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness.
  • A team player with a positive attitude and a flexible approach.
  • An ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with others across Thomson Reuters.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and ready adaptability to learn and use online sharing and publishing software.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Presentation, networking and marketing skills.
  • Personal insolvency legal experience desired, though not mandatory.

Education/certifications required:

  • Professional qualification as a solicitor or barrister.
  • Minimum 2:1 degree.
