Law Jobs

Highway records officer

About Croydon

Croydon hasn’t seen expansion like we are currently experiencing since the 1960s. We’re already well underway with some £5bn of investment that will be completed over the next few years. New offices, new retail, and new homes will provide well-paid jobs and high-quality accommodation for our rapidly growing population. Croydon is a naturally ambitious council – so we’re looking for inspirational leaders who share our passion for supporting business growth and responding to local needs. Strong partnerships are the foundation for the future.

That’s why we’re constantly looking forward. We need to find creative new ways of working together with other agencies and the private sector to deal with the financial challenges ahead. Because with growth comes increased demand – but also huge opportunity.

Chances like this only come along once in a generation, and our task, and maybe yours, is to shape a positive future for Croydon’s residents and businesses alike.

About the role

This is a key post within the Streets Division of the Place Department. We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and well organised person with specialist skills and great attention to detail to manage the council’s statutory responsibilities in maintaining both physical and electronic highway records, the stopping up of highways utilising statutory powers, the entering into of Agreements relating to works carried out on the public highway and in new streets and a knowledge of public rights of way record keeping (footpaths and bridleways).

Reporting to the service manager you will work closely with other members of the Highways Network Improvements Team whose tasks are varied and wide ranging. You will be a part of this enthusiastic team who are committed to high standards of working.

This is a rewarding and demanding role which will also require you to work closely with developers, council officers, solicitors and other professionals to deliver, maintain, review and enhance the work areas described above.

You will either have a formal qualification in a relevant subject or relevant experience. We would also be interested to hear from persons already working in a legal environment and have the skills to interpret legal documents and plans, have an enquiring mind and able to carry out research to solve highway related problems.

A full driving licence is essential as is the ability to travel around the Borough, often to remote locations. You should also have good map reading skills and be IT literate, with good knowledge of GIS.
