Paralegal

About us

Our purpose is to protect the public by regulating dental professionals in the UK. All dentists, dental nurses, dental technicians, clinical dental technicians, dental hygienists, dental therapists and orthodontic therapists must be registered with us to work in the UK. The support and experience of our dedicated and highly focused teams is invaluable. This is your chance to build on your own skills and experience and make a worthwhile contribution to our work.

About the role

Have you ever thought about using your skills in a regulatory environment? Perhaps you are interested in leaving private practise to move in-house? If so, we have several exciting opportunities within our legal team! We are interested in meeting paralegals, regardless of background, who are passionate about public safety and possess the right transferable skills and enthusiasm for a career in health regulation.

On joining us you will contribute to a first-class paralegal service supporting our prosecutions lawyers. Working under the guidance of a prosecutions lawyer you will manage your caseload, prepare documents including witness statements, expert and counsel instructions and undertake research where appropriate. You will assist with the preparation of case papers for fitness to practise hearings and work with key stakeholders including the complainant, defence and internal lawyers to ensure the expedient progression of cases.

Several of our experienced paralegals have gone on to be offered places on the two year GDC’s in-house trainee solicitor scheme and are now fully qualified lawyers.

About you

You should be able to demonstrate experience of having thrived in an environment where a high level of skill in writing, analysis and research was required. You will have the ability to compose documents and reports clearly and concisely using plain English. Using your excellent communication skills, you will communicate professionally and build empathy with people from a variety of backgrounds. Evidence of legal qualifications or relevant experience in a similar role would be an advantage.

The GDC is committed to equality and diversity. We encourage and support the recruitment, retention and career development of people from as wide a range as possible of ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds.

Benefits

To reward you for your hard work and commitment, we offer an attractive benefits package that includes a generous pension scheme, flexi-time and 25 days’ annual leave (pro rata) plus bank holidays.
