Hickman & Rose is looking for an enthusiastic and driven individual to join the firm for a two-year training contract, starting either in September 2022 or March 2023. The successful candidate will work on a range of matters across our four main practice areas and in doing so will receive superlative legal training from some of the country’s best lawyers.
Hickman & Rose is a small team of dedicated and passionate individuals who share a common goal: achieving the best possible outcomes for the firm’s clients. The firm was founded on a commitment to hold the state to account by defending the rule of law and all our lawyers are proud to stay true to this principle.
Based in Clerkenwell, central London, we offer a flexible and open-minded working environment in which creativity can flourish.
The successful applicant will benefit from a wide range of training opportunities and will, from the outset, have the opportunity to take on fee-earning work, attend meetings and contribute meaningfully to client matters.
The two-year training contract will be split into four six-month seats. The trainee will spend six months working in at least three seats across Hickman & Rose’s four departments. Depending on the individual and circumstance, they may be given the opportunity to complete a final seat at another firm. The trainee will be supervised in each seat by a senior lawyer who will continually assess the individual’s training needs in order to better tailor their training experience.

Who we are looking for
At Hickman & Rose, we are proud that our many diverse life experiences have come together to make us the firm we are today.
We understand that sometimes the right career path isn’t always clear from the outset, and that there can be obstacles to overcome along the way to a fulfilling career. We don’t believe these should be a barrier to entry. You might feel that due to your circumstances, your academic record doesn’t reflect your true potential; or that your work experience is limited or not specifically suited to a career in law. Nevertheless, we would encourage you to apply. We are looking for someone who shares our passion for providing the best possible legal representation to our clients, no matter what their situation is.
What we ask is that you have a strong interest in pursuing a career in criminal defence or civil litigation, and that you will have completed the LPC before you start your training contract. We are looking for someone with drive, vision and initiative, a willingness to learn from our experience and the desire to become an integral part of our team.
Application and interview process
The training contract application window will open at 9am on Monday 4 April 2022 and will close at 5pm on Sunday 8 May 2022.
To apply, please go to https://www.hickmanandrose.co.uk/careers/training-contract/ and complete the application form. Once you have submitted your application, you will be asked to complete an equality, diversity and inclusion monitoring form.
Candidates who are invited to interview will be asked to complete assessments designed to test various skills. These assessments will touch, in part, on the areas of law in which we practise, but candidates are not expected to prepare anything in advance. Depending on the outcome of the first stage of interviews, there may be a second round.
For further information, please contact Rachel Coburn at [email protected] or visit www.hickmanandrose.co.uk. No agency applications will be considered.
We are an equal opportunities employer, committed to increasing diversity in our firm and the wider profession. Applications from BAME candidates are particularly encouraged.
