Paralegal (Practical Law)

Our legal organisation focuses on connecting our customers’ businesses to the ever-changing legal and regulatory environment. We provide critical online and print information, decision support tools, software and services to lawyers who practice in law firms, in corporate legal departments and in the public sector. We are a growing business in the UK, especially since the acquisition of Practical Law Company in March 2013 and we are very excited about the next stage in our growth and how you can play a part in it. 
 
Position title: paralegal 
 
Position type: permanent 
 
Role purpose/ summary:
 
The paralegal will provide efficient and responsive editorial and administrative assistance to practice areas within editorial, Legal Solutions UKI. 
 
Major responsibilities:
  • Carrying out daily trawls of relevant websites and other sources, and identifying items and developments of interest to subscribers. 
  • Creating and sending daily, weekly and monthly update e-mails and alerts. 
  • Reviewing and proofing materials for the website. 
  • Writing updates and other new content for the website. 
  • Maintaining a number of materials on the website, including the legislation trackers. 
  • Providing support by answering subscriber questions through Ask and dealing with the administrative and IT aspects of Ask for the editorial team. 
  • Managing internal processes for the editorial team. 
  • Publishing materials onto the web. 
  • General administration duties.
Qualifications
 
Key skills and knowledge:
  • Completed the GDL, LPC or the BVC, or have a law degree. 
  • Degree educated; 2.1 or above. 
  • Three A-levels; grades A-C or equivalent, minimum 300 UCAS points. 
Technical skills 
  • Good knowledge of legal research databases. 
  • Excellent writing skills. 
  • Excellent proof-reading skills. 
  • Excellent administrative skills. 
  • Excellent organisational skills, ability to multi-task and organise others. 
  • Good ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise workload. 
  • Intermediate to advanced experience of Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. 
Interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships at all levels. 
Personal skills 
  • The ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and take a flexible approach to work. 
  • Ability to think ahead and anticipate needs before they arise. 
  • Willingness to take instructions from a number of individuals and prioritise. 
  • Good time-management skills. Ability to prioritise a varied workload and co-ordinate work from numerous sources. 
  • Ability to review and assimilate information from a number of different sources.
