Law and business news round-up: Brexit, Sports Direct, Amazon, driverless cars

There is certainly no way you’ll be escaping Brexit news from now until the 23rd – both sides are throwing everything into their campaigns, including using the same stats to each promote their own view; find out how that works in this useful guide from the Guardian. • The pound had a serious wobble earlier in the week as polls indicated that the leave campaign may have inched ahead – markets reacted accordingly, with more volatile economic conditions expected in coming weeks.
• As the realities of working in a “culture of fear” are made public, former Sports Direct boss is held to account by MPs and forced to admit that the company paid less than the minimum wage in some situations and unreasonably fined staff for lateness.
• High street sales were up 0.5% in May when compared to same period in 2015, thanks in part to warmer weather.
• Although fully automated driverless cars are not expected on the road until 2020, it is now possible to insure cars with driverless features (such as automatic parking) through niche insurer Adrian Flux, which is offering a new policy to account for the technology and its attendant risks.
• Amazon has branched out into the fresh food delivery business, aiming to give the supermarkets a run for their money. It has been offering the service in the United States for some years, and has now launched here in a handful of north and east London postcodes.
