LETR publication delayed again

The publication of the Legal Education and Training Review (LETR), the recommendations of which could radically change the ways that legal training is delivered and accessed, has been delayed for the second time this year. The LETR team now expect to publish the report around April-May 2013, but a specific publication date has not been revealed.

Though it was originally scheduled to report in December 2012, the LETR's publication was delayed to 16 January 2013 to give its research team more time to finalise its findings. Five days before the new publication date, the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) announced that the research team still needed more time. Now, the LETR team has agreed another extension with the SRA, Bar Standards Board (BSB) and ILEX Professional Standards (IPS), its sponsoring regulators.

In a statement, the LETR team said: "Good progress is being made by the research team in their work to ensure that the range and depth of the data collected through extensive engagement with stakeholders is fully reflected in their final report. The report is not now expected to be submitted to the three sponsoring regulators - SRA, BSB and IPS - before May 2013, following which it will be published. The sponsoring regulators support the research team's view that it's important to ensure that the data is fully reflected in the report, even though that means a delay in its finalisation."
