History student wins BPP Advocate of the Year competition

A history undergraduate has secured first place in BPP University Law School’s Advocate of the Year 2019 competition and a £6,000 scholarship toward his BPTC.

Tristan Greene, studying at King’s College London, impressed judges in a final made up of two mock trials, one criminal and one civil, held at the Old Bailey on 23 March. The other finalists to qualify from the regional heats hailed from the University of Birmingham, BPP, the University of Cambridge, Cardiff University, the University of Manchester, Newcastle University, the University of Oxford, the University of Reading, Swansea University and the University of Warwick.

The standard of advocacy was so high that judges were unable to select a clear runner-up, so three £3,000 BPTC scholarships were awarded to Hattie Stacy (Cambridge), Alastair Bloor (Newcastle) and Timothy Foot (Oxford).

Andrew Chadwick, dean of BPP University Law School said, “We were blown away by the guile and pedigree of talent during the trials, and its testament to the individuals who competed was that we couldn’t identify a clear runner-up. The only thing, and the right thing to do, was to recognise the quality of the runners-up by awarding three second place prizes. Based on what we’ve seen I’m confident they will enjoy studying with us and probably go on to secure pupillage.”
