Coffin Mew merger with Charles Lucas & Marshall cements firm’s position as regional leader

Leading regional firm Coffin Mew has completed its merger with Charles Lucas & Marshall.

The merger increases the firm’s turnover by 30% and its employees by 40%, making Coffin Mew one of the largest law firms in the South, with a business worth £15 million employing 220 staff across eight offices. Charles Lucas & Marshall, the junior partner in the merger, is a full-service firm which brings strong experience in the rural and landed estates sector. The merged firm should therefore boast a much-expanded private client offering.

Both firms will continue to trade under their original names for now, with no plans for office closures or redundancies at Charles Lucas & Marshall at present, although it may well adopt the Coffin Mew name in the foreseeable future.

Miles Brown, Coffin Mew’s chief executive, commented: “The addition of Charles Lucas & Marshall’s staff and expertise complements Coffin Mew’s services across the board. Our teams are already working well together, and I look forward to this being the first of many deals as Coffin Mew continues its expansion in the South, building on its position as one of the region’s leading law firms.”

Hemant Amin, managing partner of Charles Lucas & Marshall, said: “In merging with Coffin Mew, we have cemented our ability to offer the highest standards of client services across an increased number of sectors. The integration of Charles Lucas & Marshall staff has been my key focus and I have been delighted with how seamless the process has been. The combined firm’s talents, expertise and experience will certainly make it a legal force to be reckoned with in the South.”
