BAME student LPC/GDL pass rates significantly lower than for white peers

The Law Gazette has reported on data from the SRA revealing that black and minority ethnic (BAME) students are less likely to pass the GDL and LPC than their white counterparts.
The data comes from the period between September 2015 and August 2016, and was published by the SRA last year in their annual Authorisation and Monitoring Report. In what the Gazette notes as being “another blow for the profession’s reputation for diversity”, the report shows that while 80% of white students passed the LPC, only 40% of black students and 53% of Asian/Asian British students achieved a pass. GDL figures were broadly similar.
The report also revealed a stark contrast between success rates at different providers, with one achieving a 100% student pass rate, compared with just 30% at another. The providers were not named in the report.
