University of Law reveals students’ BPTC results – and how many gained pupillage

updated on 31 August 2016

The University of Law has revealed that over half of its 2016 full-time Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) went on to be offered pupillages.

Some 54% of University of Law’s graduating BPTC students gained pupillage this year – a great achievement given the intense competition for a limited number of places, which has also inevitably meant that a large number of graduates missed out. Unsurprisingly, the encouraging pupillage stats correspond with some excellent marks achieved by students on the BPTC, with 22% awarded the top “outstanding” grade in contrast to the 2015 national average of 9%. The University of Law attributes part of the reason for this to the fact that its BPTC offering provides four times the advocacy experience required by the Bar Standards Board.

Anna Williams, Bar specialist career consultant at The University of Law, said: “It’s incredibly rewarding to see these positive outcomes, not only for our most recent BPTC cohort who have worked so tirelessly to prepare themselves as pupillage candidates, but also for our recent GDL cohort and incoming BPTC students.”
