ULaw to deliver new integrated master’s route to qualifying as a solicitor

updated on 24 November 2021

The University of Law (ULaw) has announced that it will deliver a new four-year integrated master’s course. The MLaw (Solicitors’ Practice) will combine the university’s LLB Law with professional SQE1 and SQE2 preparation modules (subject to academic approval).

In the final year of study, students will sit the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE), leaving only the qualifying work experience aspect left to be completed on graduation in order to qualify.

The course, which will cover a comprehensive legal curriculum across four years, is eligible for full undergraduate student loan funding and will be taught mostly by qualified lawyers to prepare students for life in the legal profession.

Students enrolled on the course will spend the first three years of the programme studying ULaw’s LLB modules. These cover all the necessary areas in preparation for the SQE1 assessment. The third and fourth years of study will cover all the necessary knowledge and skills required to sit and pass SQE1 and SQE2 assessments.

ULaw’s Birmingham, Leeds, London Bloomsbury and Manchester campuses will be the first to run the Integrated MLaw (Solicitors’ Practice), starting in September 2022.

It has been described as “a straight-forward solution and will be a fantastic launchpad for students who want to become solicitors via an accessible route” by ULaw’s Pro Vice Chancellor Peter Crisp. He added: “Having the support of The University of Law all through students’ legal studies will ensure the next generation of lawyers have a clear path to achieve their dreams.

“We enable the next generation of legal professionals to fulfil their potential. The MLaw simplifies the process for future solicitors achieving their ambitions.”
