updated on 17 July 2020

The Institute of Paralegals (IoP) has revealed a new strategy to improve diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and ensure that individuals from all backgrounds are not only recruited into the legal sector, but retained and progressed as well.

The IoP’s diversity and inclusion charter outlines why change is needed and the action that must be taken by the IoP, its members and partners to ensure the strategy is effectively implemented.

The IoP is creating a new diversity and inclusion panel, which will advise, evaluate and monitor the progress of this plan.

Chief executive of the IoP Rita Leat said: “We are very proud to launch the first ever Diversity and Inclusion Charter for the paralegal profession. It is vitally important that our sector feeds into the work that is being carried out by wider legal sector, to ensure that we can learn, share and improve diversity and inclusion in all that we do. We hope that solicitors’ firms and other employers of paralegals embrace the charter and sign up to show commitment to diverse the legal services market.”
