Leading law firm Shakespeare Martineau has become the latest law firm to support and introduce solicitor apprentices as a route to qualification, welcoming its first cohort onto their six-year journey.
The solicitor apprenticeship, introduced in 2016, serves as an alternative route into the legal profession. It involves on-the-job training, enabling aspiring solicitors to balance practical work with academic study and allowing them to earn a salary throughout their route to qualification.
At Shakespeare Martineau, apprentices have a day each week dedicated to studying towards a law degree and level 7 solicitor apprenticeship, fully funded by the firm. They then spend the remaining four days conducting live work, while rotating between practice groups.

I look forward to watching them grow and develop as lawyers in their time with us and I’m excited to see what the future holds for them.”
