SRA will survey firms on their use of technology during the pandemic

A Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) survey will be sent to all 10,200 SRA-regulated firms in England and Wales regarding their use of technology and innovation.

A research team from the University of Oxford, including technology and innovation specialists Professor Mari Sako and Professor John Armour, has been commissioned to conduct the research on the pandemic’s impact on law firms’ development and use of technology. The survey will also set out to identify what the future of technology in the legal profession looks like, enabling the SRA to adapt its regulations around the findings.

The SRA has three key objectives for the next three years, one of which is to support the adoption of technology and encourage innovation.

Chair of the SRA board, Anna Bradley said: “Commissioning this research from the University of Oxford is an important step as we work to bring together the views of a wide range of stakeholders on what is happening in our sector at the moment, and what the future might hold.

“New ways of doing business and the increasing use of legal technology will affect everyone working in the legal sector, so we want to hear from as many people as possible.”
