The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has released the results of part two of the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) for the July 2025 sitting, revealing an overall pass rate of 76%. This was a small jump of 1% from the previous SQE2 results released in May.
A total of 959 candidates sat the exam, with 809 of them taking it for the first time. First-attempt candidates had a slightly higher pass rate of 79%, compared to 77% for the January 2025 sitting.
The increase in SQE2 pass rates contrasts with the most recent results for SQE1, which fell to a record low of 41% in July, with results released in October.
SQE2 is one of the two SQE assessments all aspiring solicitors must complete to qualify, consisting of 12 written and four oral legal skills assessments. SQE2 can only be taken if a candidate has passed SQE1 or is exempt from it.

For candidates that have passed both exams, the next step is to apply to admission to the roll of solicitors. Meanwhile, candidates that failed SQE2 can resit the exam in April.
Candidates are allowed three sittings of each exam within a six-year period. If they fail either of the exams three times they must “wait until that six-year period expires before reapplying, and previous passes will not be carried forward”, according to the SRA.
