The new Pupillage Gateway is due to go live today, Friday 1 March, at 11:00am. It has been designed to make the pupillage application process "easier than ever before", for both applicants and chambers.
The gateway - owned and operated by the Bar Council - offers new features, such as a wider range of search criteria and the ability to store data from previous applications. The new system has been built with improved functionality and an ability to support a large number of applications. Applicants are able to browse pupillage ads during March and submit their applications from 1 April.
Maura McGowan QC, chairman of the Bar, said: "The launch of the Pupillage Gateway reflects a concerted effort to listen to and understand feedback from applicants and providers, and develop a system which suits everyone’s needs. We are confident that we have achieved exactly that. The Bar Council is committed to a fair, transparent and accessible pupillage application process, to help ensure that the profession is open to all with the talent to succeed."
The Bar Council and the Inns have also published a brochure - "Your career as a barrister" - to provide detailed info on the necessary steps towards becoming a barrister.
