Over half of all training contracts nationwide in 2016-17 were based in London, research by the Law Society has revealed.
Out of the 5,719 training contracts that started in 2016-17, 1,923 were based in the City alone, where firms hire large trainee intakes, while a further 1,002 were in “the rest of London”.
The figures, collected for the Law Society’s annual statistics report, show that an overall 52% of all training contract opportunities in the UK in 2016 were in the capital.
Meanwhile, total trainee vacancies in London and elsewhere remained relatively steady, with only a slight fall of 0.2% in the number of training contracts started around the UK compared to 2015.
