The Times has teamed up with leading barristers’ chambers 2 Temple Gardens to launch the Times Law National Student Mooting Competition.
Teams of two from all UK universities are invited to take part, with the four finalists guaranteed a mini-pupillage and a share of the £6,000 winnings. The 32 teams will be selected on the basis of skeleton arguments and optional Youtube presentations, with the regional rounds of the competition proper set to take place throughout September, before the semi-finals and a grand final at the Inns of Court on Monday 11 January 2016.
The topic for the selection round will be released via email on 31 March, with applications closing on 31 May. Outlining his vision for the competition, Paul Downes QC, head of pupillages at 2 Temple Gardens, said: “We are hoping that a large number of students will get involved. Our pupillage mission statement is: ‘To attract, nurture and inspire tomorrow’s leaders of the Bar.’ We hope the competition will open the door to the Bar for some who have previously struggled to get noticed.”
