Sheridans, a media law firm based in London, has confirmed that it will accept the digital currency Bitcoin as payment for its services.
As reported by Legal Futures, the law firm is believed to be the first practice in the sector to make such a move. Other UK businesses have also announced that they will accept Bitcoin payments, such as Forever Beta (a UK creative agency). Sheridans will, however, continue to issue invoices to its clients in sterling; Bitcoin will only be used for the settlement of bills, and not a payment on account.
Eitan Jankelewitz, an associate solicitor with the firm, commented: "It wasn’t a decision that was made overnight; we considered it in depth and consulted all the relevant members of the partnership." He continued: "This initiative underlines our understanding and acceptance of new technologies and serves to enhance our status as lawyers advising cutting edge clients."
