Irish law firm Matheson LLP has signed an agreement with energy company Flogas to power its Irish offices with renewable energy, as it aims to reduce its carbon footprint.

The law firm has entered into a 15-year Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA), securing a long-term supply of renewable electricity. The energy will be sourced from Tullyhaw Wind Farm project, a new wind farm that the firm is also supporting during its construction. Developed by energy company Natural Forces, the wind farm aims to contribute to the decarbonisation of Ireland’s electricity system. This is Natural Forces’ first project in construction in Ireland, marking “a significant milestone in our growing pipeline and commitment to Ireland’s renewable future”, according to Natural Forces’ director of development for Ireland, Jonathan Wagner Coffey.

Matheson managing partner Micheal Jackson said: “Matheson remains committed to environmental, social and governance standards.

“Our cross-firm sustainability committee, one of the pillars of our impactful business programme, is tasked with implementing initiatives and setting targets to ensure that the firm meets its sustainability objectives and this landmark agreement is a step further on our sustainability and carbon reduction journey, whilst supporting Ireland’s renewable energy sector.”

Meanwhile, chair of Matheson’s environmental social and governance advisory group and head of its energy, natural resources and utilities group, Garret Farrelly, commented: “This is an exciting day for the firm and one that we are very proud of. We are delighted to partner with Flogas on this novel agreement to power our Irish operations with renewable energy from a new-build wind farm.”
